Yellow Pages® Special Report –Innovation, Small and Medium Enterprises– February 2001
Abstract
This Yellow Pages® Special Innovation Report examines small and medium enterprises (SMEs), their attitudes to,
and experiences with innovation and innovations. The report is presented in two sections. The first section is concerned with innovation, its meaning and drivers. It also identifies who the SME innovators are, SME attitudes to innovation, the innovation process and the importance of innovation in improving operating efficiency. The second section is concerned with innovations reported by respondents in new or improved products, processes, services, and business concepts or core strategies. While earlier studies on innovation have tended only to consider innovations in products and processes, this survey includes analysis of the sources of ideas for innovations, co-operative arrangements, assistance needed, innovation expenditure, sources of finance, and actions taken to facilitate and implement innovation.
