The economic environment has changed significantly in recent times and the number of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Australia has jumped from 1.3million in 2006, to more than 2 million in 2009.

Sensis recognises SMEs are the lifeblood of the Australian economy and is committed to continuing to support the growth and prosperity of this sector. As an Australian leader in local advertising, and with more than 600,000 small and medium business customers, Sensis supports SMEs through a number of different channels, including the Small Business, Big Opportunity advertising and marketing guide.

The website is also home to a weekly small business podcast and a monthly e-Newsletter. The e-Newsletter can be subscribed to via the smallbusiness.sensis.com.au website and features smart business ideas from industry experts, case studies on Australian businesses, news and events relevant to the SME sector.

Sensis also produces a series of research reports, including the quarterly Sensis® Business Index and Sensis® Consumer Report as well as the annual Sensis® e-Business Report. The reports are based on a sample size of 1800 SMEs and consumers respectively from metropolitan and regional areas of Australia and provide an independent, objective assessment of their experiences and attitudes on key issues.

In addition to the online and hard copy resources, Sensis sponsors a number of small business festivals across the country.
