Celebrities drive Whereis® iPhone app over 400,000 downloads

Since its launch last week, the Whereis® App featuring Celebrity Voices, which provides voice guided turn-by-turn navigation by Jennifer Hawkins, Dame Edna Everage and Nick Giannopolous, has resulted in 10-times the amount of people downloading the App each day, and almost double the daily visits to the App.
The Whereis® App featuring Celebrity Voices has been downloaded more than 220,000 times, including 20,000 new users. Daily visits to the App have reached 20,000, while the total number of downloads for the Whereis® App is now more than 400,000.
Jennifer Hawkins is proving to be the most popular celebrity voice for download with 37 per cent of total users choosing to listen to directions from the former Miss Universe.
Just over 27 per cent of total users prefer to listen Nick Giannopoulos (who provides the voice of ‘The Wog Boy’), and 23 per cent prefer Dame Edna Everage.
Mr Carl Rigoni, Sensis Executive General Manager – Product, said the integration of three iconic personalities with Australia’s most popular free mapping and navigation iPhone App provides users with a unique experience.
“Mapping is the most popular mobile search activity conducted by Australians and Whereis® provides the most comprehensive mapping data in Australia, covering more than 1,100,000km of roads and more than 99% of the population”, said Mr Rigoni.
“When you combine these elements with three iconic Australian voices you come up with a fun but, most importantly, reliable user experience that people want to use again and again.
“We’re delighted with the response so far to the Whereis® iPhone App featuring Celebrity Voices, but it’s only been a week and we’re anticipating many more downloads and updates.”
Mr Rigoni said the success of the first Celebrity Voices release for the Whereis®iPhone App may lead to the integration of more Australian celebrity voices in future Whereis® iPhone App updates.
“There’s a number of iconic Australians who would be great choices to feature on the Whereis® App, but we haven’t decided yet if we’ll add more voices. Possibly, it could be something we let our users decide in the future.”
